The first foal of 2024 is here!
We are delighted about a lovely female foal, which was the first foal to see the light of day this year at the Lipizzaner Stud Piber.
The birth, carefully supervised by stud manager Erwin Movia and other dedicated employees, went quickly and without any complications. Both the proud mother and her newborn daughter are doing well.
The filly's mother is an experienced mum and has already produced offspring at the Spanish Riding School with the stallion Maestoso Cantata, in addition to other filly births. Cantata, as part of the Europa mare family, is proving her caring and warm-hearted character as well as her maternal qualities with the current foal. Her experience as a mum was particularly important in the first few days, as the filly was in quite a hurry and was born a few days earlier than expected.
Stud manager Erwin Movia says with a twinkle in his eye: "The foal is in good health and has an extremely bright and lively character. The dam Cantata and our team at the stud are taking loving care of the filly. Particularly in the first few days after birth, the care of the little early starter requires special attention. On her first outing in the paddock, you could already see the results of this good care in the form of energetic runs and jumps."
For father Favory Bonavoja, his first breeding programme with this delightful little lady was a complete success. Together with Cantata, he not only had the important task of ensuring the breed of the stud, but also the great responsibility of being the last representative of the Favory Alea branch, which goes back to the 18th century.
Managing Director Alfred Hudler is delighted with the special event: "Every foal birth is a miracle of nature, but the first foal of the year is something very special. We are extremely happy that both mother and daughter are doing well and that the first birth of the year went without complications. With the young lady's delightful look and lively character, we are looking forward to about 40 more foal births that await us this year."
The last few days have already seen further offspring at the Lipizzaner Stud Piber: the mother mare Malva also gave birth to a healthy filly in the night from 2 to 3 February.
As is tradition, the names of the fillies will have to wait a few more months. They will be named after around six months. From then on, the fillies will bear a name from the mare's family they come from. This ensures that there are no duplicate names among the many mares at the stud.
